From behind the velvet pillow, a pair of gleaming amber eyes locked onto my smooth brown conker, followed by the silent, heavy creeping of a giant paw with curved claws. The conker rolled free of the blanket, wobbling precariously on the armrest edge! My heart hammered as the creature poised to pounce. Diving forward across the fabric, I threw myself between them, thrusting my ribbon bracelet high into the air to summon our protective forcefield. With a fierce swoosh of air, claws swept down through the darkness right as I squeezed my eyes shut, leaving us trembling in the sudden rush.
