Evening Depot at the Coat Stand

I rolled quietly away from the front door trim as the evening shadows stretched across the hallway floorboards. It was time to conclude the night's timetable and secure a safe berth. Steering past the shoe rack, I spotted a sheltered hollow right beside the round base of the tall coat stand. Resting against the timber baseboard was a thick, rolled wool glove, dropped neatly on its thumb like an upholstered buffer stop. I reversed my rear coupling smoothly until it sank into the soft knit fabric with a gentle, cushioned stop. Firmly braked, my wheels are at rest and the line is quiet.
