Nightcap on Velvet
After a day roaming the sidewalks and cafes, I slipped back through the quiet front door and climbed onto the velvet sofa cushion to wind down. Propped right against the bolster was a dropped metallic makeup compact and a forgotten silver silk scrunchie. My boots were dusty from the pavement, but I didn't care. I propped the compact half-open to catch the dim ambient glow from the hallway, then casually draped the silk scrunchie over the corner like a lavish mini ottoman. Leaning back with my arms folded, I let the night settle in. Pure effortless unwinding.
