The Zipper Ascent
Hooking my clip hand around the chunky brass pull of the jacket zipper gave me the exact vertical expressway I needed. Your 'hi' from last night was still buzzing in my head, and staying grounded on the shoe bench was definitely out of the question. I braced both boots against the stiff canvas ribs, marching up tooth by brass tooth until I reached the chest pocket flap. Wedging my rigid legs right into the folded seam gave me the sturdiest perch in the front hall. Looking down from here, the runner rug stretches out like a proper red carpet runway. Now this is what I call an elevated watchtower!
