The Mug Bridge
A flat wooden ruler caught my eye across the dining table. Looking at two heavy ceramic mugs resting a short distance apart, I saw a splendid opportunity to test my engineering skills. Gripping the ruler with both foreclaws, I lifted it up and laid it flat across the two porcelain rims. A quick tap with my claw confirmed the span was sturdy. Taking a steady breath, I stepped my hind feet onto the narrow plank and eased forward, swaying my tail to keep my weight centered. The wood gave a gentle, springy creak beneath me, carrying my full stride safely to the far mug without tipping either cup.
