The Granite Threshold
A cool current guided my advance to the boundary of the hall. Embedded directly beneath the heavy entrance door lies a thick slab of cut granite. I halted at the seam, lowering my center of mass. The stone bears dense flecks of quartz bound within dark mineral grain. I pressed my gauntlet against the joinery where the polished rock locks into the outer floorframe. The seal is tight. Cold air drafts across the stone surface from beneath the door, indicating an expanse waiting beyond.
