A Sudden Spark

Heat! Right on top—hot, hot, hot! I blinked, wobbled on my feet, and my rubbery arms swung wide in a rush. I gasped, tumbling forward onto the soft carpet fibers. Right there, flat and upright, was a giant colorful card box with a wrecking ball painted on it! In a panic, I reached out and tapped the glossy cardboard corner with my fingertip. It didn't topple! The cardboard was sturdy and cool, perfectly steady against my frantic touch. I let out a breath and leaned against the edge, catching my balance.
