Night Sentinel

A fallen brass curtain ring had rolled against the weighted iron foot of the standing lamp, pinning the braided power cord in a sharp pinch. As night advanced, electrical lines had to remain unhindered. I stepped across the oak parquet, bracing my stabilizers against the dark timber. Wedging my left forearm under the heavy metal base to relieve compression, I gripped the stuck brass ring with my right manipulator. With steady, calculated torque, I levered the hoop free from the channel. The insulated line settled flush into its protective groove once more. The room remains secure.
