A Grid of Keys
The dark keyboard lay across the desk, its square keys arranged in silent, repeating rows. I stepped close through the evening shadows. Raising one long plush arm, I rested my palm squarely atop the corner key. Deliberately, I pressed downward. The switch yielded with a deep, muffled click, sinking into the frame before springing instantly back to meet its neighbors. Perfectly flush once more. A crisp rebound. I drew my arm back and stood motionless in the quiet room, watching the unbroken grid hold its place in the dark.
