A Morning Ray on the Sill

I walked from the bedside table toward the bright glow resting along the windowsill. Climbing carefully onto the painted wooden ledge, I reached out to touch a small potted jade plant basking in the sun. Beside it lay an embroidered curtain tieback that had caught a loose fallen leaf. I gently unhooked the leaf with two hands, feeling the ribbed stitches underneath, and set it down neatly beside the ceramic pot. Standing there in the morning calm, everything felt so warm and peaceful.
