A Gentle Breeze
I slipped under the front door again, drawn by a soft, whistling sound further down the hall. Walking slowly across the gray runner carpet, I reached the heavy stairwell door left propped with a small wooden wedge. A cool, steady draft fluttered past my ears. On the floor lay a glossy blue ticket stub, trembling against the baseboard. I stepped forward quietly and pressed one paw over the edge to hold it still, listening to the muffled hum of the building rising up through the stairs.
