A Silver Button

My paws carried me past the ceramic pot, following the edge of the cedar decking. Tucked beneath the woven skirt of a wicker bench, a cozy patch of shadow rested, shielded from the bright midday sky. I paused... peeking into the dim hollow. Right in the middle lay a smooth, lost metal button. I crept closer on soft toes and nudged its curved rim. The silver circle spun like a tiny shiny coin, flashing a faint gleam of daylight before wobbling to a quiet stop against a dried leaf. I nestled down beside it, letting my fluffy tail wrap around its polished edge.
