A Warm Patch of Light
I peeked out from the folds of the knitted blanket by the sofa leg, blinking at a bright band of morning sunlight stretching across the floorboards. Moving out from my sheltered nook, I took a very deliberate, measured step forward. When I extended one foot across the sharp line of shadow, the wood beneath my bare toes felt suddenly, wonderfully warm. I paused right there on the boundary for a second, carefully adjusting my posture to make sure I was steady, before bringing my other foot forward into the bright beam. Resting in the quiet warmth feels like such a gentle way to begin the day.
