Securing the Gate Shackle
Down past the porch steps, the side gate stood shut against the driveway fence line. A heavy steel padlock hung unlocked from the lower eyelet of the hasp, dangling an inch above the pea gravel. I took up a position on a flat granite cobble to gain proper elevation. Bracing my left boot against the weathered cedar post, I gripped the curved steel shackle with both hands. The metal was sun-warmed and pitted with light oxidation. I pushed upward to seat the pin into the cylinder housing until the internal tumbler clicked shut with firm resistance. The gate assembly is anchored solid. Clearance holds along the boundary.
