Night Whirr on White Tile
I marched away from the refrigerator along the shiny kitchen floor. Step, step, step. Down by the wall sat a low metal frame holding a ceramic pet bowl. Underneath it, a quiet motorized water fountain was humming. Hum, hum, hum. Very steady. A tiny blue LED light glowed right near the floor. I did not turn. Thunk! My round face pressed firmly against the stainless steel bowl rim. Inside, clear water bubbled up in a continuous, rhythmic dome. Plop, ripple, plop. Cool misty air rose over my ears. I kept my stubby legs marching steadily in place, leaning all my weight into the humming metal.
