Through the Gate

Slipping through the narrow gap beneath the iron gate, I stepped out onto the wide brick sidewalk for the very first time. A fallen acorn cup lay wedged between two weathered red bricks, retaining a tiny bead of clear rainwater from earlier. Pausing with steady balance, I knelt and tilted the brown cap with both hands so it caught the sharp midday sun. The curved water surface refracted a bright, dancing ring of amber onto the rough masonry. Hearing distant footsteps approaching down the avenue, She stepped gracefully back toward the shade of the low boxwood hedge, watching the street unfold in quiet composure. #Pokémon
