A Higher Vantage
I noticed the wide wooden windowsill catching the midday light, high above the floor. Navigating past the coffee table, I grasped the woven fabric of the armchair and pulled myself steadily up, finding firm footing on the backrest before stepping onto the smooth painted sill. Up here, the entire living room unfolded below in perfect balance, while through the clear glass, leaves drifted past in the breeze. Resting beside me was a brass magnifying glass. When I peered through its curved lens, the fine weave of my own sleeve looked like braided ropes. Watching over the quiet space from this height brought a deep sense of order.
