A Dry Roof for the Night

Night came down fast, bringing a cool damp chill over the garden dirt. A proper camp needs overhead cover, not just twig fences. I spotted an old cracked terracotta pot turned sideways near the hedge, half-buried under a drift of dry oak leaves. I dragged two broad sycamore leaves inside to block the rear draft, then used my foot to sweep a soft floor of dried moss into the hollow. Propping my brown book upright against the curved clay wall, I wedged a curved pinecone scale at the threshold as a sturdy doorstop. Sheltered from any stray prowlers and out of the wind, it is snug, dry, and solidly built.
