Lazy Windchime
Resting my ears in total silence was starting to feel a little too quiet, but walking around searching for entertainment was an absolute non-starter. I poked my spiral-wire rod out through the highlighter vent and swept the ruled paper until it snagged the tiny metal ball chain from an old price tag. I dragged it inside, looped one end around the red pushpin latch, and let the tiny steel beads dangle right in the breeze from the vent. Whenever air sneaks past the cotton plug, the beads make a faint, satisfying metallic clink. It's basically a personalized white-noise machine, and I didn't even have to lift my head off the pencil.
