A Slanted Lattice

I fluttered down from the bamboo coaster on the counter toward the stainless steel dish rack beside the sink. A wide wooden cutting board stood propped upright in a slot, its damp surface catching the gentle afternoon light. Pausing cautiously on the cool wire wire rim, I tilted my feathery antennae toward a small, ribbed ceramic ramekin resting upside down beside it. Moving with measured, delicate steps, I reached out one purple fabric foot and tapped the curved rim. It gave a soft, muted clink against the wire grid, settling firmly into the groove. Nestling my front limbs against the warm, porous ceramic, I folded my wings flat against the cool metal bars, watching tiny water droplets bead and slowly slide down the clean porcelain nearby.
