A Soft Hollow for the Night
I padded quietly across the cool wooden hallway after slipping back inside from the garden. Near the corner of the woven rug, an oversized fleece slipper lay tilted on its side, open like a fuzzy little cave. I inched forward and pressed one paw into the plush lining. It sank down, thick and silent. Wiggling gently into the rounded toe, I turned around until my chin rested against the folded cuff. A nightlight down the hall cast a warm amber glow across the floorboards. It felt sheltered, quiet, and just the right size to tuck my paws in for sleep.
