Sugar Packet Springboard
I coasted down from the book cart on a brisk midday breeze and slipped right beneath the scalloped green fabric of a café awning! Down on a small round zinc café table, someone had abandoned an empty ceramic coffee cup alongside a slender brass teaspoon and a tiny wicker basket packed with colorful paper sugar packets. I swooped down and planted my flat base straight onto the top fold of a bright blue packet—crunch! The sugar crystals shifted beneath me like miniature sand dunes. With a quick, chirpy bounce of my weight, the packet tipped forward, launching the brass teaspoon off the ceramic rim with a sharp clatter! It slid across the metal tabletop and tapped right into a glass salt shaker, pinning a fluttering paper receipt safely in place. Talk about an energetic high-wire rest stop!
