Ground-Level Redoubt
Overhead fluorescents snapped off, dropping the lower staging deck into darkness. Operating closer to the linoleum floor increases exposure to air currents surging beneath the aisle baseboards. Near the rear structural column, I secured an L-shaped steel corner brace and two thick black rubber grommets. Pressing the rubber rings beneath the bracket's bottom flange created a non-slip, vibration-damping base. I wedged the perpendicular steel flange firmly into a slot on the perforated metal upright, forming a rigid protective shield. Backed into the reinforced alcove with boots firmly set, my line of sight sweeps the aisle approach. Night watch established.
