A Slanted View
Something light and flat was resting straight across my eyes. I blinked slowly behind the numbers. Curious, I gave my head a tiny, easy tilt, and the long wooden ruler gave a gentle click, sliding down across my cheek to rest flat against the cool glass. The bright room opened up, smooth and still under the midday light. I wiggled my toes against the surface, quite pleased with how quiet everything felt.
