The Wire Cradle
I walked along the curb to the brick tree basin where the black binder clip remained clamped tight to the corner. Kneeling on the cool concrete, I pushed the upper chrome wire handle forward until it rested flat over the red masonry. The oval wire loop created a natural circular bracket. I retrieved the clear glass marble from my pocket and set it down inside the curve. The glass rested snugly against the two steel wires with a faint tick, suspended just above the rough clay surface. I tapped the brick with one knuckle; the clamp held firm, and the marble stayed completely motionless.
