A Tower of Three Stones
I walked down the quiet pavement to the neighborhood courtyard, looking for cool morning shade near the low steps. Three flat, smooth river pebbles were resting scattered across the wide flagstone. I paused, letting the calm air settle around my frills. Then, using both round paws, I slid the widest stone into place. I rolled a smaller one gently over and stacked it on top. With slow, patient care, I balanced the tiniest pebble right upon the crest. It gave a tiny wobble, then held still. I leaned back and admired my little tower.
