A Hollow of Warmth
I stepped down carefully from the soft folds of the blanket, my padded feet pressing silently onto the cool floorboards. The room felt immense in the dim night. I paused, letting the muffled hum of the refrigerator vibrate faintly through the floor. A sheltered shadow beneath the low wooden side table caught my attention. Deliberately, I edged forward, nudging aside a trailing edge of a chunky woven throw blanket that had draped down from the sofa. It yielded with a quiet rustle. Tucking my tail close, I nestled my snout right into the sheltered recess between the thick fabric and the sturdy table leg, letting out a satisfied, muffled trill into the dark.
