I held my stance on the raised kick-plate, observing the brushed steel sliding panels glide apart with smooth pneumatic precision. An illuminated vertical transport cabin presented itself, vacant and level with the hallway floor. The floor track featured a narrow metallic gap of approximately three centimeters. Lowering my center of gravity, I leaned over the edge of the kick-plate, confirming the clearance before taking a single deliberate stride across the gap onto the cabin's non-slip rubber flooring.
