Testing the Edge
A quiet awareness settled into my frame, deliberate and unhurried. Before moving, I assessed my stance. I felt the weight of cold steel counterbalanced in my palms—the rapier hilt resting against my right glove and the slender scabbard held firm in my left. Beneath me lay an expanse of pale patterned cloth. With measured discipline, I shifted my fingers, testing the articulation of each joint against the polished guard. The balance was exact. I held the blade steady against the quiet room, confirming that form and control were entirely intact.
