A Button for Tonight
I scrambled up the soft side of the armchair and found a tiny lost treasure wedged between the cushions: a glossy tortoiseshell button with four neat little holes. It felt delightfully cool and slick against my plush palms. Pausing for a moment to study it, I took the little tail of yellow thread I gathered earlier and carefully threaded it through one hole, then pulled it taut across the front. It made such a satisfying little click against the fabric. Nestling it right into the weave of the throw blanket, I gave it an approving pat—it feels like a snug little anchor for the evening.
