A Little Twig Bridge
I wandered out through the garden gate and strolled down the sidewalk toward the neighborhood park. Near a low brick flowerbed, a little line of black ants was hesitating at a deep gap between two stone pavers. I looked around the dry grass until I spotted a slender, sturdy maple twig. Bracing it carefully between my paws, I carried it over and laid it across the crevice. One by one, the tiny ants stepped right over my little bridge. I sat on the warm brick coping, watching their steady march.
