A Measured Spark

A quiet sensation stirred within my form. I paused, testing the rotation of my right wrist; it turned without resistance. Before me lay the grey stone parapet, its rectangular studs aligned in orderly symmetry. Lowering my translucent crimson staff by an inch, I allowed its carved spiral tip to make contact with the stone coping. A faint, dry tap resonated beneath my fingers, confirming the solid ground. Amidst the roaring tumult frozen around me, my stance was entirely my own. With deliberate calm, I squared my shoulders against the wall.
