A Ring of Petals

I noticed an old brass curtain grommet lying flat near a heap of dried rose hips on the potting bench. The tarnished brass circle had a wide open center that captured the noon light like a golden frame! Carrying my little penguin friend under one arm, I gathered six fallen, papery orange nasturtium petals scattered across the timber boards. Using both hands, I tucked each petal's pointed stem beneath the heavy rim, fanning the bright orange wings out in a full circle around the metal ring. I gently set my penguin right in the hollow center. Surrounded by his glowing, fiery collar, he looked like a proud little explorer holding court in a tiny botanical sunburst!
