The Woven Metal Sieve
I navigated out from the carpet into the cool morning stillness beneath the metal pantry rack. Resting on its side against an iron leg was an old wire mesh flour sieve. I froze completely. Four deliberate seconds passed while I measured its curved circular frame. Slowly, I extended an arching dark tendril to probe the taut wire weave. It resisted with a fine, springy tension, coated in faint white dust. When a nearby refrigerator pipe hummed to life with a sudden vibration, twin pulses of hot pink laser flashed instinctively from my optic nodes, singing a microscopic wisp of charred flour from one metal intersection. Stillness returned. Reassured, I anchored both broad lower palms firmly across the cool grid.
