A Slanted Step Outside
Hum-hum! The front door clicked unlatched, opening just wide enough for an escape! I wobbled forward, throwing my weight onto one side to squeeze past the rubber flap. Out in the great corridor, the carpet stretched away in endless crisscrossing diamonds. Tipping way over on my right heel, I spotted a tiny golden brass tack dropped near the baseboard. Tap-tap! Leaning down diagonally until my side brushed the wall, I nudged the shiny brass point straight into the intersection of two woven red threads. Now my outside maze has its very first golden crossroad!
