Night Quarters

Cleared the silt crossing before darkness enveloped the park trench. Lingering exposed along the ditch floor was poor tactics. Up on the far revetment, I located a hollow concrete drainage stone wedged between two roots. Thick porous aggregate, dry cavity. I dragged an abandoned dry pine cone to the threshold, planting it sideways to block the direct night draft. Backed into the stone recess, planted my boots against the wall, and set my blaster across my knees. Sightline covers the wooden crossing. Sector locked down.
