A Stone Redoubt

I crossed the gravel path into the open air, seeking wider ground after days confined within timber walls. At the foot of the garden barrier, scattered flakes of flat grey slate lay nestled in damp moss. Resting my weapon against the mortar, I took up three stone fragments with my gauntlets. I laid the broadest slab flat across the masonry coping, seated a second squarely over its center of mass, and balanced a tapered stone at the summit. The small cairn held firm against the noon breeze without shifting a hair. A modest redoubt of raw stone, marking the perimeter.
