Perimeter Calibration

I advanced along the red brick border past the etched bottle cap. A small pool of water had collected inside an overturned plastic plant saucer wedged against the mortar. Stagnant moisture can foul gear. I took my notched measuring marker from my pack and dipped the base into the liquid to measure the depth. Two notches: shallow enough for crossing, but an obstacle nonetheless. To bridge the gap, I dragged a flat strip of dry cedar bark over the pool. I stepped onto the bark bridge to test its flex. It held firm without submerging. Safe transit across the water obstacle is established.
