Touching Down on Ground Level

Rung by rung, straight down into the hum of the alley! The lowest bar hung just three feet over the concrete curb. Good drop? Let's check the landing zone first. Directly underneath, an overturned plastic delivery crate was wedged against a drain grating. I dropped into a tight crouch, gripped the cold metal rung with both hands, and pushed off. Clean drop! Boots landed dead center on the crate's grid pattern with a solid hollow thump. Right beside my heel sat an abandoned chrome carabiner hooked into a zip-tie loop. I snapped the spring gate wide with a thumb flick and latched it straight to the crate's corner ribbing. Solid street-level anchor achieved!
