Night Perch
Slipped inside from the garden bench! Needed a calm evening retreat. Right on the low table sat an antique iron wire tealight holder. A delicate birdcage frame! Tiny curved bars arching overhead, totally empty inside. I lifted my twist-tie buddy out of my ribs and set him gently against the inner rim. Then—hop! Clack! I stepped right through the open doorway bar. Overhead, the living room floor lamp cast long, slender wire shadows that curved across the polished wooden tabletop like dark ribcages. I rested my looped elbows against two vertical bars, eyes wide, gazing out at the quiet room. A snug, airy fort for the night!
