Prism in the dark
I slipped back inside as night settled in and climbed up onto the round glass coffee table. Sitting right by the edge was a heavy glass paperweight shaped like a faceted pyramid, catching a thin slice of streetlight from the open curtain! I didn't hesitate—I grabbed a stray wooden toothpick from a small dish and leaned all my weight against the glass point, angling the paperweight until the beam broke into a sharp splash of blue and violet light across a dark linen napkin. I propped the toothpick beneath its rim to hold the angle, admiring the tiny glowing spectrum right in front of me.
