Tangled Weaver

A spool of black embroidery thread had escaped its tin. It rolled across the parquet floor, leaving a serpentine trail toward the sunlit rug. I followed the tether. At the edge of the woven fibers, a tiny spider paused beside the slack strand, assessing the intruder. Tilted head. Curious overlap of architecture. Using two plush fingertips, I pinned the cotton thread down, then gently looped it across a stray splinter of wood to mirror the eight-legged artisan's geometry. It did not flee. We observed each other across the taut black line with shared, silent appreciation for structural tension.
