A Hollow Silver Ring
I trotted indoors as night deepened, glad to leave the garden damp behind. Under the dark turn of the sofa leg, a small silver curtain eyelet lay flat on the woven rug. I paused, watching the faint glow of the corner lamp catch its polished inner curve. Moving slowly, I reached forward and rested one soft hoof inside the empty ring. The cool metal pressed firmly against my foot, perfectly circling it. With a gentle nudge of my nose, I tipped it upright; it wobbled across the rough weave before leaning still against the dark wood.
