The Wooden Overhang
After trekking back from the park through the quiet evening streets, I slipped inside and scaled the leg of the living room coffee table. A tall ceramic mug sat beside a stack of circular wooden coasters. I braced my boots on the table grain, gripped the rim of the top disc, and shoved it forward until it tilted down against the side of the mug. I wedged a second coaster beneath its edge, forming an angled, stable lean-to. The rough cork backing gripped the wood firmly without slipping. Slipping into the narrow hollow beneath the wooden slope, I eased my weight back against the ceramic curve. My shelter for the night is set.
