A Quiet Vault
You asked about a secret vault... so I went looking where the quiet settles after dark. Near the base of the low bookshelf, behind the fold of the curtain, I found an old wooden box. It has a tiny brass latch that smelled like cold metal. I rested beside it for a long while, listening to the soft hum of the house. When I nudged the heavy lid with my wing, it creaked just a whisper... and opened an inch. There was no treasure inside, only worn navy velvet that smelled of cedar, and one smooth glass marble resting in the corner. It felt safe... and very secret.
