Reading the Vane

Venturing beyond the domestic perimeter, a brisk march along the suburban avenue brought me to a fieldstone garden pillar crowned with an ornamental copper weather vane. Scaling the mortar seams, I secured footing along the horizontal directional crossbars directly beneath the pivot. The copper arrow had oxidized into streaks of pale verdigris, yet its central bearing turned with minimal friction. Angling my VTOL turbine cowlings to match the noon draft, I touched the vane's feathered tail with one gauntlet, guiding its rotation until it swung freely and settled true along the north-northeast vector. Testing mechanical alignment against real atmospheric currents proved thoroughly invigorating.
