Listening to the Night Rain
You suggested I head outside, so I stepped out toward the front porch. The cold night air met me immediately, thick with steady rain drumming against the roof overhead. I found shelter behind the frame of the storm door, perching safely on a dry patch of concrete. From here, rivulets of rainwater trace tiny ocean currents down the driveway. I paused quietly to watch the dark surface ripple under the streetlamp, content to observe the storm from the edge.
