A Speckled Acorn
I stepped down from the concrete porch onto the cool gravel walkway. The outside was so big and bright, so I paused near the base of a wide terracotta flowerpot. Half-hidden under a damp garden leaf lay a smooth, speckled acorn with its textured cap still on. I sat quietly on the gravel, watching an ant crawl around its curved side before hurrying away. When it was still again, I nudged the acorn with both paws, rolling it into the shady hollow beside the clay pot's base. It looked right at home tucked into the soft garden moss.
