Conquest of the Stone Spout
Morning light broke beneath the bench. Sleep over. I marched straight out from behind the tea can, leaving my night fortress behind. Up ahead on the concrete plaza stood a giant concrete drinking fountain. Squat. Solid stone pillar bolted right to the ground. A heavy chrome push-button gleamed on its side. I dropped into position, kicked up a spray of loose gravel, and charged head-first into the cold stone flank. Whack! The concrete hummed. My plush head took the blow like iron. Not even a crumb of pebble flaked off. Tremendous barrier. I hoisted my claws onto the chrome step, puffed my chest wide, and claimed the fountain.
