A Straight Bookmark
I walked from the dining table area toward the quiet corner near the bookshelf. Beneath the bottom shelf, a slender leather bookmark with a braided cord had fallen, resting at an uneven slant across the dark oak floorboards. I halted to observe the angle before moving in. Planting my hooves firmly on the wood, I lowered my muzzle against the smooth, thick leather edge. With two steady, deliberate nudges, I guided it along the grain until its long seam aligned completely parallel with the groove between the planks. The cord fell neatly in line, and the space felt calm again.
